Two Harlow postmen are taking on the biggest challenge of their lives when they attempt to ride from John O'Groats to Lands End over two weeks, from Sunday May 13th to 27th.
Bob Redman, 43, and Rob Leonard, 35, based at Stone Cross Delivery Office, hope to raise as much money as possible for their chosen charity St Clare Hospice, a charity which cares for people with life-limiting illnesses. The hospice serves West Essex and parts of East Hertfordshire providing services and specially trained staff to look after patients at the hospice and home.
They will be supported every pedal of the way by their friend and colleague John Perry, a mechanic based a Harlow who will be driving a loaned crew bus, helping with first aid and route planning.
To complete the marathon ride, the pair will have to ride 80 miles per day in order to finish the ride in the allotted two weeks, and approximately 1000 miles to reach their final destination, Lands End. They have been taking regular training rides in all weathers, to help with their fitness and stamina in preparation for the ride.
Special thanks must go to Colleagues and managers at the delivery office who have all been doing their bit and getting involved, to support the pair. So far fundraising events in the form of an auction and raffles have raised £32,500 and the management have agreed special leave and supplied a crew bus in order for the ride to be possible.
A big thank you must also go to Royal Mail, they have agreed to match any amount raised, as part of their current campaign to support the hospices.
