This year's conference was again held in Bournemouth probably a second home to most of us.
There was an air of great anticipation at this year's conference. I think it might have had something to do with the pending announcement on the ballot result for industrial action?
As always the Essex branch was well represented by all of our branch officials, and as always added to the wider debates out side of the conference hall.
Postal Industry conference was very lively with lots of interesting debates which I can assure you will have an affect on your way of life within Royal mail in the future.
There was some very important motions submitted to conference by our branch again this year. My self and Branch Secretary, John Hunt was at the front delivering these motions and seeing them get accepted by our Head Quarters.
Firstly, John spoke about the Network, and the concerns that the CWU have on downsizing the business. I moved a motion on getting an agreement on the citing of new equipment.
Dennis King our Divisional Rep also spoke on behalf of our Branch.
Eric Parker, Equal Opportunity Officer, moved a motion and spoke well on maternity and adoptive leave.
But this year's conference belonged to the day of the result being announced.
Amazing scenes of jubilation and feelings running very high throughout the conference hall.
The Press and TV were in attendance and I don't think even they could take it in.
Most delegates had a march and rally through the town centre to hand out leaflets on the situation Post Office workers are facing.
I have to say the euphoria carried on for the rest of the week and quite rightly so.
