We met the Chief Executive Adam Crozier, and his Senior Management Team this afternoon. We told Royal Mail we were prepared to reach an agreement that would move forward both the Union and Royal Mail's agenda.
We impressed upon the company that there was no possibility of them successfully transforming the business unless we could reach a deal that takes the workforce with us.
During the course of the meeting we set out the Union's position and expressed our genuine concerns about Royal Mail's Business Plan and how it would result in a spiral of decline for the company and the workforce
We reminded Royal Mail that the CWU were not alone in severely criticising Royal Mail's Plan. An all party Select Committee has also criticised Royal Mail's leadership for lack of vision. The Chief Executive responded by rehashing all of his previous statements and refused to enter into meaningful negotiations.
The strike on Friday will go ahead and further information will be sent out in due course.
