We are in dispute because we want to negotiate with our employer over their business plan that takes out £1.2 billion from our industry over the next 4 Years and offers us a 2.5% pay deal in return.
Royal Mail refuses to negotiate and states that we must modernise. The fact is that we accept modernisation; we don't accept the remuneration and both subjects must be negotiated. Negotiations are crucial in defending our public services and achieving a professional, motivated and fairly paid workforce.
We embark on a legal Industrial action National ballot, gain an overwhelming yes vote and commence our action. This is now coupled with a realisation amongst Postman and Women that we must start doing our jobs as they were designed to be done, so how as this been met by our employer.
Royal Mail has lied to the media over the support for our dispute. They have harassed and intimidated our members. They have removed pressure overtime and delayed the mail. They have hired [unlawfully] recruitment agencies to do our work. They have recruited part time workers against full time duties. They have totally ignored this Union at local level on all issues.
