Digital Photography Competition

22nd February 2008

The Education & Training Department will be holding a Digital Photography Competition to coincide with Annual Conference 2008 in Liverpool, City of Culture. The overall winner will receive a laptop computer. Anyone wishing to enter should submit their photo by email to learn@cwu.org no later than 12 noon on Friday 25th April 2008.

Your photograph should show what you feel to be the essence of Education and Learning. It can be a picture of a learning centre, it can be a picture of people or objects but should relate to Education and Training. It could be serious or humorous (but should always treat its subjects with respect).

Each photograph may include a short narrative (up to 100 characters) describing the image, what it depicts and the ideas behind it.

To be eligible photographs should relate to learning and education. Any CWU member can enter in any of 3 categories but will only be short-listed in a maximum of one.

  • Union Learning
  • Community Learning
  • I wish I'd learnt that sooner!

Entries will be judged on the interpretation of the theme as well as the skill involved in taking the picture. Photos can be taken in real time or posed, and may be a composite or the result of digital manipulation.

The short-listed photographs from each category will be printed and exhibited at Annual Conference 2008. The three photographs considered to best reflect the overall brief will be awarded a prize and published on the CWU Education & Training website ( www.cwueducation.org )

The judges will be looking for:

  • Relevance to theme
  • Creativity
  • Atmosphere
  • Originality
  • Impact
  • Composition
